Fissula ante fenestram

  • The fissula ante fenestram is an area just anterior to the oval window niche which is the most common site of onset of otosclerosis.1

Fissula ante fenestram

  • Its name derives from latin, where fissula means a ‘small cleft’, ante means ‘in front of’, and fenestram means window.
  • It should not be confused with a similar, sac like cavity at the posterior aspect of the oval window called the fossula post fenestram.
